Upgrading Your SmartStart Device

Last Updated: Sep 11, 2012 11:22AM PDT
As new versions of SmartStart are released you may find yourself interested in upgrading to the latest and greatest in SmartStart technology.  This was the case when we released SmartStart GPS.  While upgrading is definitely encouraged we want to explain how it works:

1)  Service plans are non-transferable and non-refundable.  This means if you already have a non-GPS SmartStart module and decide to upgrade to the GPS version of SmartStart we are unable to transfer the original plan to the new device, nor are we able to provide a refund on the unused balance of the original service plan.  This is because GPS and non-GPS service plans are not compatible with each other.  However, we are more than happy to provide you with a promo code that will provide a discount on the purchase price of a new service plan.  Please contact us @ 800-753-0800 for more information on upgrade promo codes.

2)  If you feel that your installer sold and/or installed the wrong type of SmartStart device in your vehicle please contact them to remedy the situation.  If they are an authorized dealer and inadvertently provided you with the wrong device they can call us to request a full refund of the incorrect service plan so that you can purchase the correct plan.

3)  Please note it is not possible to upgrade your device with GPS capability just by purchasing a GPS service plan.  You must have the correct hardware (VSM250 or DSM250) in order to be able to use this feature.
